Morgantown, Pennsylvania Assistant Field Manager Broad Wing Farm LLC (we are on FB) broadwingfarm.net Ideal candidate has 2 years or more experience on organic/chemical-free produce farm and is pursuing farming as a career. Most important qualifications are enthusiasm & positivity, enjoyment of physical work, efficient working style, organizational skills, and willingness to rise to the unique challenges of each day. Experience with and passion for farmers market preferred. This full-time seasonal position starts in late March and ends in November. The Assitant Field Manager will help to manage seeding, planting, harvest, washing & processing, volunteers and part time labor as well as markets, taking on special responsibility for one of these areas in particular. We are looking for someone who wants experience raising pastured livestock as we have sheep, a small laying flock and will raise broilers,turkeys, pigs and may also work with cattle in 2015. We would also prefer that you have an interest in working around draft horses. We offer an hourly wage depending on experience; housing with reasonable rent on our farm; all the vegetables you can eat; and an excellent learning opportunity. About our Farm: Broad Wing Farm rents an historic farm in Southern Berks county and though our produce and herbs occupy just 3.5 acres, the farm is 80 acres in total. Our farm sells at farmers markets in Chester County, Philadelphia and Morgantown and has a CSA program with on-farm pick-up and very devoted members. Annie is farm manager and Sean co-manages and is a skilled carpenter. We are chemical-free and will seek Certified Naturally Grown status this year. We use crop rotations, cover-cropping, compost, straw mulches, livestock and natural fertilizers to improve our soil health. We used tractors and human power in 2014 and plan to integrate horses into the farm this season. The farm is rich in water (2 wells, a pond and springs), with enough space to accommodate a complimentary pursuit for the enterprising person so long as it does not detract from our produce operations. Possibilities include: small pastured livestock projects, bees, and herbs.
