Morning Announcements, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 1. Welcome to the first day of school! We’re excited to have you here at EEMS and look forward to working with you this year. 2. We will have an assembly today at 1:30 at to introduce you to new staff members and to review the co-curricular policy and substance abuse policy. Grade 5 will be sitting on the floor. 3. All of you will be given a packet of papers to take home with you today. There are forms that need to come back to school with your parents’ input and signature on them. Your signature is required on the orange form in the section that pertains to co-curricular activities, so make sure you do your part, too. 4. There is an optional soccer “kick-around” today after school. Boys will meet from 3-4:30 and girls will meet from 4:30 – 6. 5. Tryouts for soccer are tomorrow and Thursday. Tomorrow’s tryout times are 3-4:30 for girls and 4:30-6 for boys. On Thursday, the boys tryout first from 3-4:30 and the girls tryout from 4:30 – 6. Tryouts are for students in grades 6 – 8 and the Fall Sports Permission Form must be returned to your coach with your parents’ signature on it in order to take part. 6. There will be a Cross-Country Team Meeting and Practice THURSDAY (not Wednesday, as previously posted) from 2:45-4:30. You must turn in your Fall Sports Permission Form to your coach in order to take part. You will be meeting in the elementary gym. 7. Open House for grades 5-8 is this Thursday. The Open House for Grades 5 and 6 will run from 5:30-6:30. The Open House for grades 7 and 8 will run from 6:30 – 7:30. There will be meetings held in the cafeteria for parents and students at the following times: 5:30 - Grade 5 – Meets with parents and students in the cafeteria. 6:00 - Grade 6 – Meets with parents and students in the cafeteria. 6:30 - Grade 8 – Meets with parents and students in the cafeteria at 6:30 PM 7:00 - Grade 7 – Meets with parents and students in the cafeteria at 7:00 PM 7:30 – iPad meeting for Grades 7 and 8 in the cafeteria with IT staff. 6:00 – 7:00 PM – The following teachers will be available to meet with parents in their classrooms: Ms. Tracy (music), Mr. McDonald (phys. ed.), Ms. Cowen (art), Ms. Mitchell (Spectrum). Parents and students are encouraged to visit classrooms during the half hour of Open House that they aren’t in the grade level meeting. 8. There will be a Spirit Day this Friday. The purpose is to dress up in a manner that reflects who you are, what you like to do, and just really anything about yourself so we get to know you better. For example, Mr. Newett likes to run, so I would wear some kind of running gear. Hats are fine, so if you have a hat that reflects who you are, then wear the hat. 9. Birthday wishes this week go out to Lauren Billings, Ethan Boynton, Bettina Bresinski, Relic Concepcion, Liliana Francis, Tucker Harrington, and Alexandra Smith. 10. Remember, there is no morning break in the cafeteria this year, so please eat breakfast when you arrive around 7:30AM.
