Morning: It has been a quiet couple of days. Kyra continues to improve. She has only one chest tube remaining. She swutched from her epidural to oral pain medication yesterday. Big news from yesterday.......she walked up and down five steps, just a little wobbly on the way down but she did it! Phyysical therapy and all her doctors say once this last chest tube is out she can be discharged. BTW: all her doctors have told her in no uncertain terms you Kyra have surprised all of us with how quickly you have recovered from two major transplant surgeries. We keep telling her the same thing, but it was good to hear them say it to her with no prompting. Kyra is a pro already with all her medication. She is quizzed multiple times each day by the staff on names of the drug, what is the dosage, when is it taken and most importantly, what is it for. Today is the first day that she stops taking some of the poost transplant meds and over the next couple of weeks others will drop off and/or be adjusted as necessary. Current daily pill count: 44 not counting her enzymes which could increase the daily count by 24 - 40. Kyras first goal after the chest tube is out --- walk outside and feel the sun on her face and take a deep breath of fresh air without an oxygen tank. After three long years on round the clock oxygen, I think she deserves it! Camera happy mom might even capture that sweet moment! She keeps giving me eyerolls everytime I take a picture. I just think at some point she will want to look back on these pictures and see how far she progressed in a short amount of time. Plus our days are such a blur it might help me remember too ;) This morning when I got my morning hug from Kyra I got an added surprise with it. She was able to squeeze back; I got to feel the hug today. Through tears I said I can feel your squeeze in the hug. It truly is a beautiful morning. === kyras mom ===
