Morning News Headlines: As many as six shooting suspects are still on the run in Eastern Kanawha County, this hour, nearly three hours after one person was killed and another injured in a shooting in Rand. Witnesses say more than 30 shots were fired there.Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriffs Department have been looking for a silver van in connection with the shooting. Two men charged with shooting to death a military veteran and Purple Heart recipient whod recently returned home in 2012 outside of a Martinsburg bar have been acquitted of murder charges. However, a Berkeley County jury did convict Rashaun Boyd and Christopher Wyche of several other charges connected to the death of Samson Edmond after several hours of deliberations Thursday. Wyche was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, in one case, Boyd of attempted murder. Sentencing on those other charges is scheduled for March 23rd. In McDowell County, it took a jury less than an hour to convict a War man for killing the man his longtime girlfriend had moved in with back in 2013. Fifty-two year old Donald Lee Baker of Beartown was shot once in the chest. On Thursday,Wesley Owen Payne, 55, was found guilty of second degree murder. A bill repealing West Virginias 2009 state law setting alternative fuel benchmarks for power plants will soon be going to Governor Earl Ray Tomblin for his signature. On Thursday, the House voted 95-4 FOR the repeal. A version of the repeal bill picked up unanimous approval from the Senate earlier this week. U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito is taking over as chair of the subcommittee for the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee that specifically oversees EPA regulations established under the Clean Air Act.Capito says it puts her in a strong position to challenge, what she calls, the EPAs overreach.
