Morning Reading for March 29 Luke 7:31-35 (Matthew 11:16-19) Suggested further reading: Proverbs 8:1-11 The wisdom of Gods ways is always recognized and acknowledged by those who are wise-hearted (v. 35). Though the vast majority of the Jews were hardened and unreasonable, there were some who were not. Those few were the children of wisdom. Those few by their lives and obedience declared their full conviction that Gods ways of dealing with the Jews were wise and right, and that John the Baptist and the Lord Jesus were both worthy of all honour. The saying of our Lord about the generation among whom he lived describes a state of things that will always be found in the church of Christ. In spite of the cavils, sneers, objections and unkind remarks with which the gospel is received by the majority of mankind, there will always be some in every country who will assent to it and obey it with delight. A `little flock will never be lacking who hears the voice of the Shepherd gladly and counts all his ways right. The children of this world Maymock at the gospel and pour contempt on the lives of believers. They Maycount their practice madness and see no wisdom and beauty in their ways. But God will take care to see that he has a people in every age. There will always be some who will assert the perfect excellence of the doctrine and requirements of the gospel and who will justify the wisdom of him who sent it. And these, however much the world May despise them, are they whom Jesus calls wise. They are `wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus (2 Tim. 3:15). Do we deserve to be called children of wisdom? Have we been taught by the Spirit to know the Lord Jesus Christ? Have the eyes of our understanding been opened? Have we the wisdom that comes from above? If we are truly wise let us not be ashamed to confess our Master before men. Let us declare boldly that we approve the whole of his gospel, all its doctrines and its requirements. For meditation: Paul said that his ability to speak of the things of God was rooted in his belief of their truth (2 Cor. 4:13-14). In an age when Christians have an increasing tendency to be silent, could it be that the root of the problem is a lack of conviction about the gospel and its doctrines?
