Dear Graham and Maria, An elderly neighbour, and friend, recently lost his wife and is finding it hard to cope. He comes round every day and stays for an irritatingly long time. I have offered him dinner on occasion but my husband tells me I am making a rod for my own back. Surely we must all have some compassion in this life and anyway, isn’t this what friends are for? I must confess it is starting to wear me down as, quite understandably, he is miserable and lonely. How should I tackle this? Beverley in Dunstable
