Morning all – firstly thanks so much for getting in touch and quite rightly pointing out that I had an issue with me helmet and also that I really need to go a bit quicker! I just wanted to outline the facts to you on the issue of my helmet strap being undone in the Oulton Park racing sequence. This on board footage of my helmet taken from a minicam mounted on the handlebars was shot during a sighting lap before practice. I realised that my strap was undone coming into turn one. As it was one lap at slow speed (most were it turned out!) I decided it was safer to carry on at a sedate speed and come in to correct it after the one lap. That is what I did. I put it down to nerves, being totally untogether as ever, shitting myself and having a load of alien things to think about! The problem is that the Edit Producers used that footage, it now transpires, to intercut with the other future laps. This was because the same camera in the same position didn’t record for some reason on future laps. My strap was only undone for this one sighting lap, the problem obviously is unwittingly the edit team has given the impression that it was undone throughout. For that on their behalf I apologise unreservedly. As far as myself and the production team are concerned we strive throughout the production to adhere to stringent safety guidelines in anything that we do. This time we have messed up and I take full responsibility. As the Uk’s most watched motorcycle show we are fully aware that we have a responsibility to show best practice in what is often a dangerous passion that we all have and I want to make it quite clear that we do not support or condone unsafe behaviour when it comes to any form of motorcycling. We have learnt from this situation and I assure you it will not happen again. Can’t thank you all enough for your comments. We are all passionate about a sport and a way of life that is dangerous, that’s probably one of the reasons why motorcycling makes me feel that I’m alive. On that note the shoulder is mending well and should definitely be ready for me to attempt a World Land Speed record for Brough Superior on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah on August 26th. Lots more about that laters! Going to do my helmet up properly now and go out and enjoy the sunshine on my Metisse (the only bike I can ride with my slight shoulder issue!) – hope you lot are too! Keep it the shiny side up. Best wishes to all Henry
