Morning everyone I was out with the Mustard Seed Soup Run last - TopicsExpress

Morning everyone I was out with the Mustard Seed Soup Run last night in Dublin City Centre and more of the Hats you made were given out to our very grateful friends on the streets. The Mustard Seed Soup Run goes out every Monday evening, we went out in 2 groups of six some to the Northside others to the Southside. I was on the Northside run. Off we set with tea/coffee, soups and sambos all made by the team that were going out. We meet some lovely people and gave out some of the Hats you made, again it was a mild night but those who took a Hat were so grateful. Again the people we meet are from all walks of life and from lots of different countries. They are so grateful and happy for someone to take the time to talk with them for even a short while, ask them their name and give them a smile. We meet quite a few ladies last night. So many of our friends last night had nothing but the clothes they were wearing, a few and maybe a small bag, but really they had nothing, some didn’t even have a sleeping bag to protect them from the cold. It is unimaginable for us to even begin to understand what it must be like. One young girl who only turned 18 really touched my heart and I have to be honest with you all, I cannot stop thinking about her since meeting her last night. She was so beautiful and so innocent looking. She said she is had been in care since she was 12 years of age but she didn’t mind that, she was with nice people and got fed. She said when she turned 18 three weeks ago she came out of the system and she can’t get a place anywhere to live or get the right help. She was so grateful for the tea and sambos because she is so so hungry. She is ringing various organisations to help every day and hopes to be off the road soon. She said she is terrified on the streets, she is drinking a lot to try and forget,, drinking to try not feel the cold, drinking to not feel, drinking to try not be afraid. OMG I just wanted to take her home with me. Those of you who know me, know I have children of my own and I have a daughter who is nearly 18 and this is why this young beautiful girl has left me somewhat broken today. I wish I could help but I don’t know how – I can only hope she finds a way out for herself very soon. She took one of our Hats, she was wearing a pink tracksuit and I’d taken out a pink hat and she spotted a grey & pink Hat and fell in love with it, she put it on her head straight away saying how lovely it was and it will keep her head nice and cosy – she said to make sure I say thank you from her – So here is a very special THANK YOU from a very special girl x
