Morning people often have a holier-than-thou attitude about having - TopicsExpress

Morning people often have a holier-than-thou attitude about having no particular difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, and they tend to be rather disrespectful towards those of us with a nocturnal brain. Morning people are frequently very passive-aggressive towards people who do not enjoy waking up in the morning. A morning person might say, 'Well, I actually ENJOY getting up in the morning,' or something to that effect. And, naturally, the person always says this in a highly smug and scolding manner. This is because morning people frequently consider themselves superior to evening and night people. People who hate mornings have probably all come across at least one person who has given them a guilt-tripping speech about their propensity for staying up late and having trouble waking up early. I have personally witnessed lectures of this kind from university teachers who try to make their students feel like a bunch of immature and irresponsible slackers for still being tired at 10 AM. In fact, it is not unusual for people who do not mind waking up in the morning to promote the idea that the brains of evening and night people are on a lower level of development than the brains of people who go to bed fairly early in the evening and wake up early in the morning without feeling tired afterwards. Morning people really seem to enjoy framing morning haters as developmentally deficient. People who tell young students that they should become adjusted to early awakenings in order to be prepared for a career clearly assume that these students are too stupid to realize that most respectable jobs involve getting up in the morning. They also assume that the students in question have never had a job that required getting out of bed in the morning. And, of course, they are implying that students who hate mornings are lazy and have poor lifestyles. I have nothing against morning people per se. I simply dislike the sanctimonious attitude so many of them hold. They are often judgmental, passive-aggressive, and arrogant towards people with nocturnal brains. That is why I generally prefer the company of people who, when left to their own devices, stay up very late and wake up in the afternoon.
