Morning reflection Romans 8:28-31 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Most people have heard that all things work together for our good, but stop and consider how much is revealed in this passage. And let us not forget to look at this promise in the context of thepathway teaching in which it was presented. The promises of God are laid out before us, and we discover these promises by walking in God’s purposes. God has planned our life, destination, and all the circumstances that surround each day. The scripture warns us to take heed so that we don’t fall short of God’s grace. In the letter to the churches in Revelation, Jesus gives this warning, “Hold fast to what you have that no one may take your crown.” This is God’s plan. He has laid out a perfect life and gives us direction so that we may inherit the Kingdom promised to the believer. Yet we are still warned that it’s possible to lose the crown God intends for us. One example given to us is Esau. By birthright, Esau had the promise of inheriting the honor of the family’s firstborn and the promise of being the carrier of the blessing that would one day be fulfilled in Christ. By right, he should have been the forefather of God’s people, but he allowed the promise to be given to his brother. To gratify his hunger, Esau willingly sold his birthright and lost the promise. We also have hungers of the flesh and it’s easy to be deceived into giving up our crown of promise for something that will gratify our lives now, even though it is only temporary. If we take heed to our lives of faith, we stand upon the promise that nothing can prevent us from inheriting all that God has promised. The Lord has designed your life from the foundation of the world. That’s what is meant by foreknowledge. He knew you before you were born. In fact, the Bible says the Lord knew us before the world was created. God’s plan for your life has been woven into creation and that is why all things work together for your good. That path stands in the center of God’s will for your life – His purpose. His first calling is for you to conform to the likeness of Christ so you can have perfect fellowship with God. Through that fellowship, you will see the calling and purpose of God so you can walk in it. It’s your destiny, but it isn’t a forced destiny. Otherwise there would be no need to warn us not to fall short of it. The confidence we can have is two-fold. First, there is nothing that prevents us from becoming the godly person God intends us to be. Second, there is nothing in the world that can prevent us from walking on that path to completeness and victory. The promises are placed along life’s journey with the greatest reward awaiting our arrival at the end of this life. Though God does allow us to choose to walk on His path or our own, there is nothing outside of our life that can prevent us from inheriting what God has in store for us. There is nothing that can prevent a surrendered believer from conforming to the image of Christ. If God is for us, nothing can be against us. All we must do is walk on the path God has designed for us.
