#MorningDevotion SILVER AND GOLD A wise woman, who was travelling in the mountains, found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveller who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveller saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveller left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But, a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman. Ive been thinking, he said. I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone. Acts 3:6-8 (NIV) Then Peter said, Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the mans feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. What is more valuable to you, the precious stones and material passions or Christ who lives in your heart? Many times we focus on things we do not have and our focus on that makes us miserable even to the point of doubting the love of God for us. We live in a materialistic world where many equate blessings with material possessions. Unless you have a big house a big car and all these other things that many are chasing after, many will say you are not blessed. Have you ever considered who you carry in your heart? I often marvel at the Christmas story as i try to imagine how it was for Mary to carry the creator of the world in her womb. But when you think about it, we who are born again are in the same position. We carry the lord of all creation in our hearts. That’s the precious gem that we carry and we should protect at all costs. When we realise that, we shall have the confidence that Peter had when he said silver or gold i do not have.......Peter knew that what he had was more important than the silver and gold the crippled man desired He gave him what was more important. There is an important lesson for us all. Having material possessions does not necessarily mean that you are blessed of the Lord and vice versa. Peter may not have had coins to throw at the lame man but what he had cannot be compared to any currency in the world. He had Jesus, and that’s what he gave and that came with healing, something no amount of money could get for this man. You and I have the same Jesus living in our hearts and His name still carries the same power and we have been given the authority to use that name and do exploits for God. So, why are we not using that name? Practical Application. Realize that what you have with Jesus if far more valuable that all the currencies of the world put together.
