Most Asian states like their counterparts in Africa attained their Political & Economic sovereignty in the 2nd half of the 21st century with exception of Japan at most. These Economies like India, China, Burma, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Philippine, Singapore, North Korea, and South Korea etc worked to build NEW governments, & economies shortly after the attainment of independence in 1940s a period under which the entire world Asia in particular was divested by Second world war. Despite the challenges encountered during the 2nd half of 21st century which among them is the economic constraints resulting from the effects of world war II, deference in political opinions across all divides within the respective nations, the rapid population growth which has constrained the region’s resources base, secessionist movements among others, It is surprising that these economies are taking off steadily. It is no wonder that the power & influence of the Asian Pacific countries are likely to expand. In 1997, The Geneva World Economic Forum Listed the world’s strongest economies and Singapore topped the List The emancipation and the rapid development of states like Singapore, India, South Korea, and Malaysia in the last 5 decades is somehow a miracle but strategic planning of the economy cannot be under looked. Though much of consideration among these nations was put at land reform, empowering their people, mass industrialization, government reforms but revolution in education sector has qualified majority of them as a global think tank. Today the Universities in Asia young as POSTECH of South Korea, National University of Singapore, Peking University of China, are threatening the status quo of OXFORD, CAMBRIDGE, HARVARD, MIT, LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS, CHICAGO UNIVERSITY among others. See topuniversities/top-50-under-50 These institutions established in 70s have positioned themselves globally (Take POSTECH) when our indigenous public & private universities in Africa are toiling due to the fact that African governments have scarcely been able to support the existing public & private universities so the persistent declines in funding and chronic strikes. See independent.co.ug/column/comment/6512-the-futility-of-political-public-universities As responsible citizen of Africa (Uganda in particular), we must find out what Asia has done to maneuver as compared to Uganda/ Africa. See topuniversities/university-rankings-articles/asian-university-rankings/universities-asia-heart-asian-century Our approach to growth & rapid development should therefore target improving all level of Education with increased research in industrial innovation, ICT development, & life science. True, It is the government’s responsibly to rethink but Private sector too is equally liable to funding education if Uganda is to realize land mark development. Consider the Origin of POSTECH that was founded by POSCO - formerly Pohang Iron and Steel Company.
