Most Hazardous There are two more things to add to my “Most Hazardous Things in the World List,” driving a car in Rhode Island and the super market on a Friday, the day of a big storm, or the first of the month. Either one of these can cause permanent physical damage, if not death. These are climbing to the top of my list close to War and Smoking. If anyone questions my decisions, it would be necessary to spend periods of time trying each. I strongly suggest paying up your insurance policy first. #1. Car Drivers in Rhode Island When I first moved here from the Midwest, I was warned about the drivers. Being accustomed to Chicago, I thought I had experienced everything. Within a week, I learned the following: • Vehicles sold in RI have their turn signals removed because no one uses them. • Merging consists of coming to a complete stop before proceeding into traffic. • Yield means to hurry up and cut you off or block you from merging. • Stopping all allow someone to enter the roadway at any given time without warning. There are more examples to add to this list, but it would take too long to list them all. #2. The Market On the selected days mentioned, the crowds increase significantly, each for their individual purpose: • Fridays – The sale fliers arrive on Wednesday with the effective date of that Friday. • Fridays – Shoppers are getting ready for the weekend parties, gatherings, holiday, or just whatever. • Storm Preparation – Any threat of a major storm will deplete any stock of bread and milk for whatever reason. • First of the Month – This is normally the day when government subsidy moneys are distributed, thus requiring shopping. With the increased market traffic, it lends itself to the same mentality as Car Drivers, except if rear-ended, there is no structural damage like cars, but there is a tremendous amount of pain around the ankles. In any case, there is definitely room for lesions in restraint, intelligence, patience, caring, and tons of love. Try to reflect on this when getting into the care or taking control of the market carriage (grocery cart, depending on our origin.
