Most Southerners are at least in part of Scots blood (many by way of Northern Ireland i.e Scotch-Irish) Tonight when you drink that cup o kindness and sing Auld Lang Syne take a moment to remember and perhaps explain to another what it means and where it comes from. And perhaps also, by way of the song, a small part of who you and they are. Auld Lang Syne in the Scots language (which derived from Old English) literally means old long since. or for the old times (and BTW Syne should be pronounced as sign NOT zyne! So dont sound like an Englishman or a yankee when you sing it!) The poem was written by Robert Burns but is based on a much older Scots folk song. The version below is the tune that Burns originally intended for it. Enjoy and remember the blood that runs in your veins! https://youtube/watch?v=0U3w_zpiWSE
