Most dogs learn the trick "touch" very easily. Its one of my favourite tricks to teach a new dog as it has so many applications. Here is min pin jack who was with me for a few weeks. He loved to play touch! This isnt so easy with dogs who are hand shy however. My current foster dog Monty is having huge dfficulties with this trick as he was treated very badly in his previous home so does not like hands near his face and will flinch or move his head completely if i put my hand near his face. So what I am having to do is teach him hands are amazing from a greater distance than this trick requires. I hold out my hand, a safe distance from his face and click and treat for any interaction with my hand, whether its sniffing or even just glancing at it. A good way to encourage this is to hide a treat between your fingers, Monty soon sniffs my hand! Every time he investigates my hand quicker and is even begining to nose bump it, its still a huge distance from him but its an alternative way to teach it. Some dogs find tricks difficult so be creative and work out how you can make it suit your dog :)
