Most of my Facebook friends know that I lived in Boston for 25 years and that I am also a devout yankee fan from birth....my dad was an usher at Yankee Stadium on the weekends when I was a child growing up in NYC. Being a Yankee fan in Boston during the late 70s and 80s was a blast and I spent many days and nights in the bleachers at Fenway Park. I am no longer a baseball fan....I hate the designated hitter rule and I find it laughable that only one league uses it....I hate interleague play....I hate that players jump from team to team with absolutely no loyalty to anything other than the dollar so you end up, as Jerry Seinfeld so accurately put it...rooting for laundry!!! But what I hate the most is that steroids...and the cheaters that felt they had to use them, have completely destroyed the rich tapestry of baseballs history by rendering its records and achievements of the great players in its past almost meaningless. Despite my love of the Yankees, and my requisite hatred of the Red Sox....I find myself deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Boston manager Don Zimmer. Don was baseball....he was part of the game either as a player, manager or in the front office for over 60 years. Living in Red Sox nation, I felt like I knew Don Zimmer, as you couldnt read a sports page or watch the 11 oclock news without this wonderful character doing or saying something that was uniquely him. Don Zimmer was everything that was right about baseball....and his passing today further robs baseball of its hard fought and well earned legacy in our history, not just sports history, but our nations history....when it was called Americas Pastime for a reason. R.I.P Don Zimmer
