Most of the Zambians will be celebrating the Easter holiday - TopicsExpress

Most of the Zambians will be celebrating the Easter holiday beginning 18th to 21st April, 2014. As much as this is a Christian moment, criminals will also want to take advantage of the situation. As such, the Zambia Police Service would like to advise members of the public to be security conscious and secure their valuables at all times. Those who would like to hold family parties are advised to notify the police in their areas of jurisdiction. You may be wondering why we are demanding for a notification. This is to help us monitor the situation at the respective premises where the events are being held as well as in the surrounding areas. On several occasions, we as Zambia Police have had problems in policing such events when we are not aware of them. Help us to police you and those around your area by informing us on time. As for this years’ Easter holiday, we have already deployed enough officers to conduct both foot and motorised patrols in order to maintain law and order country wide. The patrols will be conducted from 18:00 hours to 04:00 hours in the morning. Most people have complained about being harassed by police officers when they are found wondering about at night or soliciting for immoral purposes. It is important to know that according to Section 178 and 183 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia, it is an offence to be found wondering about at any place without any reasonable cause of being there. This is the reason why you see the police apprehending people for the commonly phrased ‘Shishita’ and charging such people with idle and disorderly conduct. Traffic officers will also be at hand to mount snap checks and road blocks in order to control and monitor the flow of traffic as means of curbing road traffic accidents during this period. Motorists should not feel inconvenienced when they are stopped by traffic officers during this period as it will be a way of making sure that their vehicles are in good working conditions and they are abiding by traffic rules. This will help in the reduction of traffic accidents which happen on our roads. As Zambia Police, we would like to wish you all an incident-free long weekend. Don’t blame us for conducting Shishita for it is done for the protection of people’s lives and property. We therefore urge you all to report any suspicious incidences to the nearest police station.
