Most of the time, during meetings (business, ministry, family, etc.), I doodle. I once worked on a job where we had weekly team meetings with Customer Service, Sales Team and Technical Support. In these meetings I doodled. One day at the end of the meeting, my Supervisor pulled me aside and asked me to stop doodling in these meetings as it made it seem that I wasnt paying attention and it made her uncomfortable. It was hard but I stopped doodling (in those meetings....). Now doodling is an unfocused or unconscious drawing made while a persons attention is otherwise occupied. According to a study published in a scientific journal, doodling can aid a persons memory by expending just enough energy to keep one from daydreaming, which demands a lot of the brains processing power, as well as from not paying attention. It helps one to keep from thinking too much or thinking too little and helps one focus on the current situation. (Wikipedia) In other words, doodling helps one to think, remember and learn. So, if I am ever in a meeting with you and I am doodling, please know that the doodle is helping my noodle and I will be the better for it! And if you just happen to be a doodler as well, my word for you today is.... Carry on, my fellow doodlers, carry on!
