Most recent letter sent to City Council Members and County - TopicsExpress

Most recent letter sent to City Council Members and County Commissioners. Please share, and please send letters so that we can bring much needed change. I am writing to request that additional and adequate funding be provided to our Animal Control Agencies here in Clark County. As it stands now, the response time for Animal Control is measured in days, not hours, if at all. With the increase in Felony Animal Cruelty and Hoarding Cases, it is imperative to have Animal Control on scene to properly document and preserve evidence for successful prosecutions. These types of cases continue to increase because abusers know that they will not be held accountable; this is NOT okay because at some point, these abusers will graduate to harming people. Instead, funding is given to the Animal Foundation to continue killing thousands of innocent and healthy pets; if additional funding was provided to Animal Control, this number could be greatly reduced by allowing the proper enforcement of our spay and neuter laws and to go after and prosecute the illegal backyard breeders looking to make a quick buck. These illegal backyard breeders are nothing more than animal abusers who continue to breed over and over again with no concern for the health of a dog, many of these puppies and kittens wind up in the hands of other abusers or those who participate in illegal fighting activity. Too often, when someone calls Metro to report an incident involving an animal, those calls are never reported to Animal Control. Early the other morning, I observed two Metro Officers pulling in and out of various car dealerships on Sahara and getting out to look at new cars. It seems to me if they have time to go car shopping on taxpayer dollars, then they have time to respond to cases of animal abuse. Just within the last several weeks, a hoarding situation was discovered of almost 120 cats; the same person responsible for this hoarding case is also responsible for a previous hoarding case involving 60 cats. Because of one persons irresponsible acts, the Animal Foundation has killed almost 150 innocent cats with no accountability. In another case, an innocent dog was walked into the desert and shot in the head very close to a school. Unless and until, these cases are taken seriously, everyone should be ashamed that these activities have been allowed to continue. Please provide adequate funding to Clark County Animal Control to enforce mandatory spay and neuter laws, go after illegal backyard breeders, improve response time and investigative procedures. Thank you. Melissa Boyd
