Mostly Sunny but Cold for your Saturday SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — We are waking up to temperatures in the single digits in many areas this morning and some locations are starting off below zero. After a frigid start this morning, despite sunshine it will stay quite cold this afternoon. But wind speeds will be light all day and allow for a decent day to play in the snow! Temperatures in ski country will stay in the teens while temperatures here in the valley reach the lower 20s. Tonight’s temperatures will be a bit “upside down”. We start with an initial dip during the evening but as clouds increase overnight and a south breeze kicks in, temperatures should be able to rise into the 20s by daybreak. Readings continue to climb into the 30s during the day as precipitation arrives. Right now it looks like rain for most of western Massachusetts though some sleet or a few wet snowflakes may mix in at the start. The rain becomes heavy at times in the afternoon into the early evening with the occasional downpour continuing into the overnight. With the frozen, snow-covered ground, the heavy rainfall may lead to some minor street flooding. Rain will taper off to showers and end by dawn Monday with clearing and blustery conditions to follow. Rainfall estimates are still all over the place but a consensus would be for over an inch of rainfall. The rain will come to an end early Monday morning and it could end as a period of wet snow in the higher elevations, though at this point it does not look like much in the way of accumulation. Some sun will return on Monday though it will be blustery and cold with highs in the low 30s but factor in the winds and it will feel even colder. First Warning Meteorologist Don Maher
