Mother had been very unsettled these past weeks. Her Cousin, my Aunt Patimi Akene had been kidnapped for over 2 weeks. The kidnappers had demanded that her son, who is a Commissioner in Bayelsa State resign from his position, and failing that, pay a ransom sum totaling Millions of Nigeria. Negotiations/investigations took weeks, we all feared for the worst as Aunt Patimi is now getting old and the conditions she was kept where worrying. She was released yesterday. Mother called me to speak with her when she went to see her. It is very unsettling that politics is now played on the arena of kidnappings, murder and the tools of fear. My Mother has a son who is a politician and holds office(s). My brother is a good man, has a great reputation and does his job well. There is no fear that he has stepped on toes, but ever so often, Mother worries that her cousins fate could be replicated. Sigh. Miebimo Precious Princess
