Mothers Day reflections: Your Eyes Are Going to Stick That Way They say we slowly turn into our mothers. When we were young, we grimaced and rolled our eyes at her old sayings. What was annoying back in the day is sorely missed for so many on this special day. Mom was your best teacher and she became your best friend. She taught you to be tough yet compassionate. If you struggled with the mother/daughter relationship, those hard lessons taught you how to be a better mother. It was hard for them to say, I love you, yet, they would show you in ways that shaped your own life. She worked herself to the bone-all for her children. She cried in the corners of the laundry room, and heartily laughed in the company of others. When her body became weak and tired, she never complained. Her first thought was of your needs, and her last thought was of....your needs. Today, as you celebrate Mothers Day with or without (physically) your mom, thank her because you are slowly becoming your mother. Smile as you remember her sayings, and hear her voice echo as they become yours: Your eyes are going to stick that way if you keep that up. If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all. I better not hear another peep out of you. Close the door, this isnt a barn. I am not a maid! Look at me when Im talking to you. This room isnt going to clean itself. These beds are not made for jumping on! Ive been waiting up all night for you. Not while youre living under my roof! Dont sit so close to the TV, it will ruin your eyes! Ill wash that mouth out with soap! Im not running a taxi service Always wear clean underwear in case you get into an accident. Happy Mothers Day
