‘Mother’s Musings’ Proper 22 (October 6th) Habakkuk 1:1-4, 2:1-4; Psalm 37:1-10; 2 Timothy 1:1-14; Luke 17:5-10 Musing the readings for this Sunday is not a reflection that will bring comfort – it is raw, and heartfelt disappointment with God for not doing something about the fractured world in which we live. “O Lord, how long shall I cry for help and you will not listen? Or cry to you, ‘Violence!’ and you will not save? Why do you make me see wrongdoing and look at trouble?” (Habakkuk 1:1-3) “Look at the violence and the suffering in Syria, Iraq, Nairobi …look at the misery of the homeless and hungry on our streets; look at the children who are victims of abuse and the prisoners who are victims of torture.” Then the psalmist says; “Don’t fret, don’t be afraid, don’t be angry. Put your trust in the Lord, commit your way to him, delight in him, be still, and wait patiently.” (Psalm 37) And then St. Paul tells Timothy, “Rekindle the gift of faith in God which is within you,” (2 Timothy 1:6) and I can only continue to cry out with the Apostles – “Lord, increase my faith!” (Luke 17:5) Amen and Amen.
