Motorsport Report Kildare driver Kevin O’Hara, the current Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year, was best of the Irish contingent in the Walter Hayes Trophy Race at Silverstone yesterday, finishing third in the Grand Final of the major race that closes the Formula Ford 1600 season. O’Hara took second place in his qualifying heat and won his semi-final, but couldn’t match Scott Malvern and Oliver White of Britain, who took the top two positions. Dubliner Robert Barrable finished eighth, with former multiple winner Peter Dempsey of Ashbourne twelfth, but last week’s Formula Ford Festival winner Niall Murray was one of the retirements from the final. Andrew Morris was the clear winner of the Supercar Final at Mondello Park’s Rallycross, after a dramatic race that saw problems for his rivals. Pole position man John Kelly’s Lancer Evo stalled at the green light, and he lost almost fifteen seconds before he managed to get away, while the Lancia Delta of Grzegorz Kalinecki spun off on the first lap.
