Movie Review INTERSTELLAR *** Im very mixed about this sci fi film Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan, and starring Matthew McConaughey,Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, & Jessica Chastain. The earth is in trouble ,global warming has been destroying the farmlands with dust storms, huge brush fires etc.. Crops/food are running out. Coop (McConaughey) and young daughter realize something drastic has to be be done. They discover a NASA lab, nearby, and are told by Prof Brand ( Caine), and daughter (Brand) that they are working on 2 theories, to find a spot in the Universe that would house and save mankind. The place happens to be near the planet Saturn.. Coop is asked to go to that area against his daughters wishes.and to. find a place and work out which formula would correctly allow this to happen. Exciting , fascinating yes..... Now the 2 problems: The film is long and slow I understand they were trying to show the length of time it takes to get to Saturn, and the slowness of space movement due to distance etc but this took over 3 hrs.!!! The second problem is the scientific rhetoric Too deep, too complicated for the average audience to comprehend. As i was leaving theatre people were saying What was that all about? or Im really confused etc and it was the manner in which they determined the correct formula is totally incomprehensible. and how the older Murph( Jessica Chastain) discovers this therory is difficult to understand !!!. Positives: great acting by entire cast, excellent special effects ( esp the sequences on Saturn, and nearby moon,) very good direction, but this film should have been shortened, and the theories about how to save planet earths populus should have been made more clearly for the audiences.. The space sequences reminded me of Gravity , which was , in my opinion a much better film. Go see this film, if you wish but make sure you read volumes of scientific texts,physics, space travel etc before you go !!!
