Movie Review: Saving Mr. Banks Saving Mr. Banks is the touching story of Walt Disney chasing PL Travers, author of Mary Poppins, to turn the book into the movie weve all come to know and love. PL Travers, played flawlessly by Emma Thompson, is a crusty woman who holds Mary Poppins near and dear to her heart. She begrudgingly agrees to head to Hollywood to meet with Walt Disney, played by Tom Hanks, and the writers of the film, Sherman brothers. Through a series of flashbacks, why Mrs. Travers has such thick veneer becomes more clear. PL Travers taped all meetings she had which the writers of Saving Mr. Banks used. The story is bittersweet and beautifully done.
