Movie Review Tuesday! I’ve missed the last 2 Thursdays so I’m making up for lost time!) Let‘s get to it: 1. “Vanilla Sky”, 2001, starring Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Kurt Russell, Jason Lee. Rated R. I really liked this film. It’s weird, it’s spooky. It’s hard to figure out, it’s like a mind puzzle. A few times you’re thinking “What is going on here, how did that happen, how come the…thing…huh?” About 25 minutes from the end, it gets REALLY weird, and makes no sense at all: YOU HAVE TO KEEP WATCHING. If you bail, you’ll just be angry and frustrated: trust me, if you make the commitment to watch this film, you have to stick with it til the very end, it WILL make sense. If you like movies you have to sort of “actively” watch, you’ll like it. IMDb says this film is a “Mystery Romance Sci-Fi” and it is. 2. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, 2008, starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Julia Ormond. Rated PG-13. Man this was a weird one. But I enjoyed it. I don’t think I’d watch it again though. It’s sort of odd and disturbing. Button (Pitt) is like an 80 year old man when he’s born, then ages backwards. His lover (Blanchett) ends up taking care of him when he’s young, or actually old, when he turns into a toddler then a baby, which sort of brings to mind a kind of gross pedophilia thing… he actually turns into a newborn baby, then dies, but in actuality he’s like 80 years old. I have mixed feelings about this film, I don’t know if I’d recommend it. The acting is great, and it’s beautifully filmed though. 3. “The People vs. George Lucas”, 2010, starring, well, no one really. This is a comedic documentary about the disenchantment that hardcore Star Wars fans have with all things Star Wars, and mostly Lucas himself. It is absolutely hilarious. If you are a fan of Lucas, or anything he’s made, you might want to check this out. I had NO IDEA that so many people felt this strongly about him, or how he “ruined their lives” (??? yes it’s true) by slightly changing some of the films when he re-released them as those “Special Editions” in 1997. OMG. These people need lives. These people feel that these films are THEIRS, and that he has no right to change them or tamper with the movies that they are emotionally attached to. If you watch this, I’d love to get your feedback and tell me what you thought of it. It’s a scream.
