Movie review: 12 years a slave The true story of a free black man from the north in 1840s who is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the south. As the winner of best picture I was interested if this movie won because it was truly great or if the subject matter was what really won the award. As acting goes I have zero complaints. All the actors brought their A game. The story is very interesting since its based on a book written by the main character. I never felt like I was watching anything that was too hollywoodized. The movie felt genuine even if good film making just tricked me. On the downside I honestly got bored at times. I know that I was supposed to be moved emotionally, but it wasnt until the final scene that I felt the weight of story. Even when I knew I was watching a good film i still felt it was missing something and Im not quite sure what. I wanted to know more about his life before slavery. Good movie. Solid movie. I just wasnt effected emotionally like I needed to be. Imdb: 8.3 Rotten tomatoes: 97% My score: B
