Movie review: St. Vincent St. Vincent is a comedy drama starring Bill Murray in the title role with Melissa McCarthy , Naomi Watts , Chris ODowd and Jaeden Lieberher. The movie opens with Maggie ( Melissa McCarthy ) a single mom who is moving into a new home in Brooklyn with her 12 year old son Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher) Maggie is starting a new job and is forced to work long overtime hours , she has no choice but to ask Vincent if he would watch her son for a few hours. Vincent is a retired grouchy grumpy old drunk gambler , who seems to care about no one and no one seems to care about him, except for a pregnant hooker Daka( Naomi Watts ) Vincent brings Oliver along all his routine daily stops - the racetrack , dive bars Strip joints and his hooker friend. Vincent with his hardnose pain in the butt attitude teaches Oliver how to become a man , how to defend himself , how to deal with the shady side of life and people and that hooking is one of the more honorable occupations. During a custody battle that Maggie has with her husband ,all of the experiences that Vincent has exposed Oliver to comes out in court . This does not go well for Maggie because she now she will have to share custody with her husband , who Maggie thanks really does not care much for the boy. Through all of his noncaring insensitive attitude Oliver sees something in Vincent that no one else seems to be able to see. He sees a side of him that is misunderstood and a man with a good heart. There are no big surprises in this movie you will pretty much know how it is going to end. With that said -I truly enjoyed this film. It is touching , carry and uplifting. It reminds us not to judge a book by the cover. Im not sure how the critics will review this but to tell you I LOVED the film. I give it 4 Champs
