#MovieNews: RoboCop Statue to Be Unveiled in Detroit Tomorrow Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Jun 2, 2014 by Brian Gallagher With 20th Century Foxs RoboCop debuting on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD June 3, the city of Detroit will unveil their 10-foot bronze statue of the crime-fighting cyborg, portrayed by Peter Weller in the original Robocop and by Joel Kinnaman in this years reboot. The initiative to construct a RoboCop statue started three years ago, when a Massachusetts resident suggested to Detroit mayor Dave Bing that the city should celebrate this iconic character with a statue in the following message. Philadelphia has a statue of Rocky & RoboCop would kick Rockys butt. Hes a GREAT ambassador for Detroit. While the mayor responded that there were no plans for a RoboCop statue, non-profit organization Imagination Station raised $50,000 to fund the construction, just days after the initial suggestion was made. The unveiling is just one part of the events scheduled for RoboCop Day in Detroit tomorrow, including RoboCop throwing out the first pitch of a Detroit Tigers game at Comerica Park. Take a look at the full schedule of events below. • 12:10 p.m. - RoboCop presentation and statue announcement • 12:30 p.m. - 1 p.m. - Fan photo opportunities with RoboCop • 1 p.m. - RoboCop and Detroit Police Department departure to protect the City of Detroit • 7 p.m. - RoboCop throws out the first pitch at Comerica Park The RoboCop statue will be unveiled at the Detroit Public Safety Headquarters, although the planners have not revealed where the statues permanent home in Detroit will be yet. RoboCop was released February 12th, 2014 and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel.
