The initiative to construct a RoboCop statue started three years ago, when a Massachusetts resident suggested to Detroit mayor Dave Bing that the city should celebrate this iconic character with a statue in the following message. Philadelphia has a statue of Rocky & RoboCop would kick Rockys butt. Hes a GREAT ambassador for Detroit. While the mayor responded that there were no plans for a RoboCop statue, non-profit organization Imagination Station raised $50,000 to fund the construction, just days after the initial suggestion was made. The unveiling is just one part of the events scheduled for RoboCop Day in Detroit tomorrow, including RoboCop throwing out the first pitch of a Detroit Tigers game at Comerica Park. RoboCop was released February 12th, 2014 and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel.
