Można? Można! :) Exciting new… another victory… but your help is still needed. I am very excited to report that Meriam Ibrahim was finally released from Prison. If you recall, the Sudanese Government sentenced Meriam -- a 27 year old Sudanese Christian, wife, mother of a small child, and at the time eight months pregnant with her second child -- to death by hanging for professing her Christian faith. In prison, Meriam was forced to give birth to her second child while she was shackled to a disease-ridden floor. Over the last month, I sent you several emails asking that you join us in fighting for the release of Meriam. I did this, because I believed that the Sudanese government was unable to handle the public outcry and would free her. Together, we sent over 307,000 emails to the President of Sudan. Omar al-Bashir was no match for the public outcry and the media attention. Omar al-Bashir was no match for your 1 voice, combined with the 307,000 other voices. If you were one of the 307,000 signatures -- thank you! Thanks to you -- Meriam Ibrahim, Maya (her newborn baby), and her two year old son are finally free. Shortly after Meriam and her children were released, they rejoined Daniel (Meriams husband and the father of her two children). They planned to take the next flight out of the country, when Sudanese authorities rearrested Meriam and her entire family, claiming that their documents were false. They were detained for 24 hours and then let go. They are currently at the Embassy in Sudan and hopefully will be on the next flight out of the country. If you were one of those 307,000 people to sign the petition, thank you for helping Meriam! I said above that your help is still needed, that is because it is… Meriams situation represents a much bigger problem. Christian persecution is at an all-time high. Pakistan, Iran, Syria, Kenya, Egypt… the list goes on… Christians are being murdered or imprisoned for their faith. Pastor Saeed Abedini faces similar obstacles to the ones that Meriam faced and still faces. Pastor Saeed, who is an American citizen, with the permission from the United States and Iranian governments, traveled to Iran to help build an orphanage. Soon thereafter he was arrested and imprisoned (in Iran). His crime? The same crime of Meriam -- being a Christian. Pastor Saeed converted to Christianity from Islam. The Iranian government claims that Pastor Saeed is a national security risk and in prior visits to Iran started home churches and worked with Iranian teens in converting them to Christianity. In early 2013, Pastor Saeed was sentenced to serve eight years in an Iranian jail. Pastor Saeed is very sick, and his family is concerned that he will not make it through the entire sentence. He is a husband, and also the father of two growing children. Much like we were able to accomplish with Meriam, please sign a petition calling on the immediate release of Pastor Saeed. Over 23,000 have signed, together lets send the same message. If you have not already, please sign here: citizengo.org/en/988-demand-release-pastor-saeed-abedini Earlier this month, Naghmeh Abedini, who is the wife of Pastor Saeed, released this update on Saeeds condition: Today Saeeds parents were able to see him today. He is doing much better and recovering from the beatings at the hospital a few weeks ago. Saeeds parents mentioned to me that there was a religious delegation that had recently visited Iran. According to an interview with BBC Farsi, Pastor Joel Hunter specifically discussed Pastor Saeed and Clemency for him during the visit and the visit was very positive! I am thankful that our government is discussing religious freedom issues in Iran and Saeeds freedom! This is great news for Saeed and for the Iranian people!” Lets stand together for Saeed, much like we did for Meriam. If you join your one voice with the voices of thousands more – we can speak loud enough that they will hear us in Tehran. If you have not done so already, please sign the petition calling for Pastor Saeed to be immediately released from prison. Sign here: citizengo.org/en/988-demand-release-pastor-saeed-abedini If you have signed the petition already, please could you take two minutes from your day and share it with your friends and family. Again -- thank you for your help in freeing Meriam and her children. Thank you for taking the time to help Pastor Saeed. citizengo.org/en/988-demand-release-pastor-saeed-abedini Warmest regards, Gregory Mertz and the whole CitizenGO team -----
