Mr. Maloys, Mrs. Stegers, and Mr. Shaffer’s classes have gotten - TopicsExpress

Mr. Maloys, Mrs. Stegers, and Mr. Shaffer’s classes have gotten off to a busy start in all subjects. Mr. Maloy’s class is reading texts describing the attributes of a good employee. Making connections between work, school, and home behavior is very important and the topic of work ethic is one that will continue to be addressed throughout the school year. As the students start looking at the potential of having jobs, (some students already have jobs!) teachers incorporate various aspects of the process, including difficulties they might face in a work environment and appropriate workplace behavior. In Mrs. Steger’s Language Arts class, students are learning about incomplete sentences and how to form correctly structured sentences. Something the students are really excited about is Mr. Shaffer’s shop class. A few times every week, the class suits up in safety goggles and gloves and heads outside. They plan on making Christmas ornaments with cut wood. Later in the year, once students are more familiar with tools and procedures, they will make shelves to use in the new school building. This project teaches the students about workshop safety as well as carpentry skills.
