Mr. Peter A. Penta, 88, of Plainville passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Colson) Penta. Peter was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Waterbury, a son of the late Umberto and Rose (Anastasio) Penta and was a longtime Plainville resident. He was a graduate of Plainville High School and was a veteran of World War II proudly serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Abbot. Pete was a carpenter and cabinet maker and was the owner and operator of Penta Woodworking having worked in the family business since 1939. He had a never-ending work ethic and worked seven days a week up until a few days before he died. He truly had a love for his craft. He was a member of the VFW post 574 and the American Legion Post 33 both in Plainville. Pete will be remembered as a gentle and kind person always willing to help anyone who needed it. He leaves his sons, Gregory Penta of Plainville, Kenyon Kramer of Medina, Morocco, and Anthony Kramer of North Palm Beach, Fla.; his daughter, Rhoda Valentine of Plainville; his brother, Albert Penta of Madison; his grandsons, Jason Penta and Patrick Haggerty, both of Plainville; his great-granddaughter, Toni Jean Penta of Southington; his niece, Joanna Penta of West Hartford and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Josephine Metcalfe. Family and friends may visit at the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., in Plainville on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Plainville will be held in the spring.
