Mrs. Leung was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1924, with family root in Taishan, Guangdong province. Both o f her parents, mr. mah and mrs. boonkrong, bulakul, were prominent leaders among the Chinese communities in Thailand. At early age, Mrs. Leung went to China to study. Whilst in college, war broke out as Japan invaded China. Mrs. Leung joined the Zhejiang University military service team to take care of the army. She travelled with the army and endured great hardship. Thrice experienced near death situations, she thanked God for His protection and thus resolved to serve God all of her life with fervent gospel sharing and doing God’s will. After the war, she returned to Zhejiang University in Hangzhou to complete the Education degree. Then she returned to Thailand where she married Mr. Leung, They have three sons and two daughters, with the exception of their eldest son who went to be with the Lord as a young boy, all four of their children have good families and education. Mrs. Leung was passionate about education. Armed with her education background, she became the school principal at the Kwong Chow Primary School in Bangkok, led the school to an exceptional level scholastically, and was greatly respected by the Chinese communities. Three years later, bestowed with the prestigious Fulbright scholarship, she went to Peabody College for Teachers in America to earn her Master degree in Education and then returned home to continue her education career among the Chinese. Furthermore, she also became the director of the Kwong Chow Women Association and promoted women ministry in the community. Though heavily burdened with women and education responsibilities, she never shied away from evangelistic ministry. In 1962, Mrs. Leung was invited by Thailand’s Department of Education to compile the mandatory Chinese textbooks to be used in all primary schools. The new textbooks came out in 1965 and greatly impacted Chinese education in Thailand. The same year saw the establishment of the Sawang Wattana High School. As principal, Mrs. Leung elevated the English competency by hiring Western women teachers and utilizing English textbooks. Sawang Wattana High School turned into truly a school successful in equipping students in both Thai and English languages. In and out of church communities, Mrs. Leung actively shared the words of God, oversaw Bible studies and led people to Christ. In 1962, she was ordained as an elder, such recognition was rare in a conservative society at that time, owed mainly to her devoted love towards God and others and her many years of good conduct in life. As a result, she received numerous awards, and her many contributions were recorded in the Chinese Who’s Who in Thailand”. ln 1979 her entire family immigrated to Texas, and they first attended Austin Chinese Church, Houston Chinese Church and later West Houston Chinese Church at different times. In all three churches, Mrs. Leung continued to teach Sunday school, sharing Christ, and caring for the lost, activity sharing the gospel and writing testimonies. Because of her love for God and for people, she was well loved and respected by her student; many of them later came to know Christ. In 2006, they returned to Thailand to share gospel to their relatives and friends in the communities. They also taught Sunday school and equipped other believers in church. In November 2010, after happily married for 62 years, Mr. Leung went to be with the Lord in his sleep. Not long after, Mrs. Leung’s house was totally submerged in water during a flood in 2011. Faced with two major losses within a short interval, Mrs. Leung continued to have steadfast faith in God and was even more active in sharing the gospel and serving God. In early 2012, she returned to America and stayed with her youngest son, attended Katy Christian Community Church every Sunday without cease. April of this year, she was diagnosed with last stage of kidney cancer, which left her with extreme pains. In God’s mercy, on May 18, Mrs. Leung, rested from all the earthly toils, and went to be with the Lord at the age of 90. Mrs. Leung loved the Lord with all her hearts, all her souls, all her strengths, and all her minds. She also loved people, was always thankful, glorified God and blessed others. Just as Paul said in Il Tim 4:7, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Her life is truly an excellent example for us to follow.
