Mudavadis UDF party to work with ODM ahead of 2017 polls THE United Democratic Forum (UDF) party has entered into negotiations with ODM for a possible collaboration ahead of the 2017 General Elections. UDF party secretary general Justus Kizito said his party is in serious negotiations to work with ODM members in preparation for the next polls. He said UDF had remained independent without entering into a coalition with another party after the 2013 elections. “We are currently working closely with the Jubilee alliance for a relationship to empower our people,” said Kizito at Mung’anga in Mumias East constituency on Saturday. He said a section of UDF members in Kakamega had agreed to back ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya to retain the Kakamega County gubernatorial seat in 2017. Speaking during the burial of a renowned businessman Opaki Masoso, Kizito said he will vie for Shinyalu parliamentary seat on a UDF party ticket but back Oparanya to retain the County’s top seat in 2017. “Going by the development record of Oparanya, we have no reason to identify another candidate for this seat. He is down to earth in matters of development” he said. He said a section of the county staff was hampering the governor’s efforts to deliver development projects to the people of Kakamega. “They have erected a human wall around the governor and are blocking members of the public from accessing him. If they can obstruct me from accessing the governor, how do they treat other ordinary wananchi?” he posed. The former legislator for Shinyalu constituency advised Oparanya to pool resources with President Kenyatta to secure the ailing Mumias Sugar Company from collapse. He asked leaders not to use Mumias Sugar Company for their political gains but consider the importance of the company to the people of Western region and the country at large. “Some leaders will want Mumias to go under and come the last minute to pump in a few coins to hoodwink voters. Some will want it to collapse and buy it at a cheap cost” he said. He said UDF will beckon its MPs to visit President Uhuru Kenyatta to officially request him to rescue Mumias because it holds the economic base of the Western and beyond. “We are highly concerned with the state of Mumias and call upon all leaders from Western to push their differences aside and seek for means of rescuing this miller” he added. -
