Muharram - Aashura The 10th day of Muharram is called the Day of Aashura. This day is very significant day for muslims. If the books of history are to be opened onw will find that trough this day Allah Rabbul Izzat allowed Islam to spread and continue. •Moosa(as) was saved from Firown - Allowing islam to spread •Yunus(as) was freed from the stomach of the big fish(some ulama say a whale) - Allowing him to propagate islam Therefore it is encouraged that we keep fast to commemorate this day. Either the 9th and 10th or 10th and 11th. The reason for keeping two fast is to oppose the Jews who also commemorated the day by fasting because of the incident of Moosa(as) Today unfortunately, we find Muslims imitating a certain type of jew! Nabi صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم said that Dajjal will come with 70 000 jews from Isfahan(place in Iran). Ulama today have stated that these Jews are actually the shias. The shias were formed by a jew Abdullah bin Saba. Now you ask how do the ahlu sunnah imitate the shias? Simple the making of Taziah While the Ahlusunnah regard the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Hussain(ra) as very important in the history of islam. We shouldnt be saying that Aashura is because of the martydom of Hussain(ra) or because of Karabala. Every year in Muharram the shias they go for a pilgrimage to karbala to visit the mazaar of Hussain(ra). In the past this practice used to also take place and the shias have attached certain reward to doing this pilgrimage. Now the question arises... So what? They doing that, how is the ahlu sunnah imitating them? In India 1699 Taimur became the the king. He was a shia. He used to also make this pilgrimage of to karbala every year. Once there was a war and he couldnt make the journey so he make a model of the Mazaar of Hussain(ra) and displayed it.by seeing this practice the rich and the famous people of his reign imitated and began the same practice hence this spread through to the citizens. Also during the Mogul Empire “Taziadari”(making of Tazia) was common. Humayu was defeated by Shershah, thus he took refuge from Iran when Humayu went and asked for help. Shah Tahmas welcomed him warmly and provided a good cavalry of 10,000. Humayu came to India with the 10,000 cavalry and defeated Shershah taking back his lost homeland. Experiencing the Azadari of Iranis, he introduced the practice in India . Humayu donated pieces of land (plots in each and every town/ cities in the name of Hussein and on these small plots man-made tazia were placed. Today everywhere it is known as “Chawk.” Actually these are Humayu’s azadari (memorial) places. In South Africa some unsuspecting people of the Ahlu Sunnah and Sufis still continue this tradition of making taziah. When u tell them this is from the shias they tell you we are not shia, we are sunni it pains me to see soo many Ahlu sunnah people involved in it. I must say its not the Ulama, its the laymen who are continuing this, the shias love to see disunity amongst us. Those(laymen) that claim to be sunni and follow the teaching of Molana Ahmed Raza Khan(ra) will vociferously say that we are sunni we follow Ala Hazrat,we on sunnah but they still do this and even participate in qawaali when Molana Ahmed Raza Khan (ra) himself opposed these practices. May Allah give us understanding. May Allah unite the Ahlussunnah. May Allah unite the hearts of the ulama of the Ahlussunnah. Taalib-e-dua
