Mum question: I am exclusively breastfeeding my 6 week old twin - TopicsExpress

Mum question: I am exclusively breastfeeding my 6 week old twin girls. In the last week or so they have become very unsettled. After they have fallen asleep on my breast I put them down to sleep and 10 minutes later they are screaming again. They regularly have wet and soiled nappies, my breasts feel drained after a feed and they are putting on weight so Im pretty sure they are getting enough milk (I love your Boobie bikkies). I dont think they have reflux. I think they would happily sleep on me for hours though. Im going to eliminate dairy from my diet to see if that changes anything. Is it possible that they are very comfortable on me and when I put them down to sleep they dont have that same feeling in the cot? I dont want them to rely on my body contact for sleeping! Im hoping its just a phase and this too shall pass but Im worried Im creating bad habits. Thanks for listening Pinky says: Congratulations on breastfeeding TWO babies! My hat is off to anyone with twins - its a huge job. It certainly sounds as though they are getting plenty of milk. At six weeks most babies go through an unsettled period (for a couple of weeks at least). Trust your intuition - they probably are very comfortable on you but if this is too hard to sustain (which I absolutely understand), you could try elevating the heads of their cots a little and perhaps lying them on their left side when you are watching them (not at night), in case there is a bit of reflux - most babies have a bit due to an immature gut - that little valve between the stomach and oesophagus randomly opens and closes and a wee bit of acid regurgitating could be waking them. Please dont worry about bad habits - at this stage they are still getting used to life outside the womb. You could also try lying them on a teeshirt you have worn so they smell and feel you are still close. Eliminating dairy could be helpful too. And perhaps alternating and carrying one in a wrap then the other for a little while each day may help them regulate into a more sound sleep or popping them in a rocker that is slightly elevated could extend their sleep - see the blog post below for some more tips. pinkymckay/sweet-dreams-pinkys-tips-to-help-your-newborn-to-sleep/
