Mum question: I have a 7 wk old I am exclusively breast feeding. I have recently received some horrendous news about the health of a family member (they have advanced cancer). I am understandably VERY upset but Im also very worried my little one will be picking up on this (because I am crying all the time) or that the stress and upset will cause my milk to dry up. Has anyone else had an experience like this where this has happened and do you have any suggestions on what I can do to avoid my little one being effected. Kind regards. Pinky says: Huge hugs to you. What awful timing for such devastating news. Please dont worry about your babys well-being. Your little one will simply want to snuggle with you more and this will help you release calming hormones in both you and your baby (oxytocin is released by cuddles/breastfeeding). There is an incredible bond between mothers and babies that somehow protects you both. Let the tears flow, snuggle your baby and try to enjoy the time you have with your relative. Keep drinking and eating and resting when you can - if you feel yourself spiralling emotionally, please see your GP and possibly get a referral to psychologist so you have a safe place for support.
