Mum question: I read recently that I am harboring mistrust by letting my son fall asleep at the breast and then putting him into his cot, as when he wakes up Ill be gone. Now I feel guilty for doing this. What are your thoughts? Pinky says: Please dont even worry about this - its rubbish. Your baby will wake and call for you and by attending when he calls, you are teaching him to trust. Your baby will elicit the care he needs and by responding, he learns to trust.- Unless you stay and hold him for his entire sleep (which may not be practical and he sounds perfectly happy to be nursed and put into his cot) , the alternative is leaving him to self settle aka possibly cry to fall asleep by himself and being upset /ignored as he tries to communicate is far worse for his sense of trust in you. Besides, there are amazing hormones in breastmilk that make babies feel drowsy so it makes more sense that this is a helpful calming tool than a vehicle for mistrust. pinkymckay/breastfeeding-your-baby-to-sleep/
