Municipal Election 2014.... Over the past many years, I have - TopicsExpress

Municipal Election 2014.... Over the past many years, I have had to good fortune to work with many very progressive and positive councils with the best interests of McBride as our main goal. I have been on the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George for 15 years and, as a group, we worked for the betterment of the region. Some of those accomplishments include: * A solid waste management plan that meets the federal and provincial guidelines, and is still responsible to the taxpayer. Garbage and waste management is costly, but we are still working towards better re-cycling opportunities and product stewardship rules that make producers of paper and plastic packaging more responsible for cost of dealing with packaging waste. I helped McBride get the transfer station posted here in McBride thus reducing the costs of garbage truck mileage/maintenance/fuel and labour costs for the village and residents. The Rd pays the village to lease the site land with a contract attendant, at no cost to the municipal taxpayer. * The McBride and District Fire Department is a very well run, well trained, and well equipped department. Our volunteers are some of the best and we are proud of them. Responsible budgeting and cost/spending management has put us in good shape. * The Recreation Center and Community Hall are well run and maintained. They are paid for, debt free, and need only operating and occasional upgrade dollars. * The collaborative planning for marketing the valley is ongoing ie: the Discover Robson Valley Region initiative. Tourism planning and economic development opportunities are promoted at the regional level as well as locally. * As a group, the regional board and administration looks for every opportunity and promotes equally through-out the area. I have been on the North Central Local Government Association for about 9 years. I am the longest sitting executive board member on the NCLGA. The NCLGA is the elected voice of the north and central part of the province of BC. We represent the issues and concerns to the Union of BC Municipalities and the Provincial Government. I was elected by the total membership as director at large for the first 3 years and since then have been appointed as the Regional District representative the past 6 years. I have been a member of the resolutions committee ( 3 years as Chair person) which forwards local govt resolutions and concerns directly to the annual general meeting and then onto the provincial government. I am ( or have been) a member of many boards and associations during my tenure as councillor or mayor: * Board member and community representative to the Northern Development Initiative Trust Regional Advisory Committee. * former Omineca Beetle Coalition board member * McBride Community Forest board member * Council of Forest Industries community representative * Regional Hospital District community representative * former Forestry Task Force community representative. * BC Hydro Robson Valley Task Force. * Many others that may not be still in place at the present time. Back in 2012......I was surprised and very honoured to be awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award as recognition of my service to Canada. Service recognition to Canada, Province, Regional, and Local government has been one of my proudest moments, but I cannot take all the credit. Democracy is a team effort and credit is given equally to all who participate and try to help us to prosper and make a better place. As I stated earlier.....I have worked with many, many, good councils and staff members, and I appreciate all their team contributions. Please check in here again very soon for more updates on the planning done recently and a look at future possibilities. Thanks for taking the time to have a closer look at my posts. More to come.....
