Municipal elections held in second group of towns; results announced for first By Ahmed Elumami. Tripoli, 8 December 2013: Counting is underway in the elections for the new municipal councils in Zintan, Awjila, Traghen and Wadi Atba which took place yesterday. Announcements of preliminary results are expected to start tomorrow. The four places were the second group of towns to vote for the new councils. Last Saturday, 30 November, saw voters going to polling stations in Beida, Shahat, Tazerbu and Bint Baya. Turnout, however, was low in Beida and Shahat. “Everything went very, very well yesterday,” Otman Gajiji, Chairman of the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections (CCME) told the Libya Herald. “There were no security problems.” The elections in Bint Baya last Saturday were suspended because of security issues at two polling stations during the poll. It is reported that protestors from villages neighbouring Bint Baya disrupted the vote at the two stations, opposed to it being an independent municipality.
