Murphys law strikes again - after the shooting down of the Malaysian Airlines flight over Ukraine, and the crash of another passenger aircraft over Taiwan, we have come to know that a flight chartered by Air Algeria with about 116 passengers has disappeared from the radar of the Air Traffic Controllers between Ouagodougou in Burkina Faso and Algers in Algeria. The flight encountered bad weather with a big sandstorm over Gao in Mali and was allowed to move to a relatively clearer trajectory. Mali is still an embattled nation with a multinational force trying to establish peace. Terrorist groups are very active in this desert area. More than fifty French nationals are presumed to be on the flight. France has sent its Mirage 2000 based in Tchad to fly over the zone to look for the aircraft. At the time I am writing this, the French Government made a laconic statement that the plane has probably crashed and that efforts were being made to locate the aircraft..
