Muscat: Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company today said the companys project implementation and its expansion programmes are going on smoothly, despite criticism against it in the wake of an ongoing litigation against some of its employees. Addressing the media to allay rumours in the social media, Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company chairman Sheikh Salim Saeed Hamad Al Fannah Al Araimi, said that the company is executing its projects at highest levels of professionalism and to the satisfaction of clients. Everything is going on very smoothly and there is no problem in the management of the company. Galfar has several big projects already in its portfolio, which was added every passing year, he added. Sheikh Al Araimi said the company has investments in India, Kuwait and Qatar. We have also registered (companies) in Saudi Arabia and Libya (during the old regime). But no work has been undertaken due to a conservative policy followed by the management. Citing an example of the professionalism in Galfars project work, Sheikh Al Araimi said the firm has carried out the off-plot delivery service contract (ODC) very efficiently and won the trust of the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). The work on this started in 1988 and renewed for three times. Then it was given to three foreign companies, but these companies could not comply with the contract conditions. This has negatively affected the working and operations of PDO. Thereafter, Galfar was asked to implement this project and the company accepted this big challenge and won the trust of PDO. This proved that Galfar is the leading company to implement major projects, the companys chairman explained. Since its establishment, Galfar follows a policy of providing best services at the lowest price. It was the leading company in reducing the cost of projects, which benefited the country as well as the economy. Despite Galfars positive contribution in developing infrastructure, he said the company is now facing unnecessary criticism in the media and social media platforms. We believe in freedom of speech and healthy criticism, Sheikh Al Araimi said, adding; What we are seeing is unnecessary criticism against the company that are not based on facts. This will not help in improving the activities, even if the intentions are good. It will adversely affect by developing a gap between the company and the society with which it belongs to. He said that the criticism would damage the image of Galfar, which has also resulted in affecting the share prices on the stock market, hitting the small investors badly. The company will not keep silent in this situation and has the right to take legal action against those people who harm its interest. The Galfar chairman also said that out of its total employee strength of 24,000 people, 5,000 are Omanis working for various projects in different parts of the country. It is not a secret that the Galfar is considered as a pioneer not only in Oman, but also in the entire Gulf region, he added. Galfar is also one of the first companies the government depended on developing infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, airports, sea ports, hospitals, oil field services and dams. The premier position the company enjoys now was achieved after successfully implementing major projects.
