Museveni Going to Moroto for Youth Day Nixon Segawa yoweri-museveni-ronald-kibuule Uganda will on August 12 join the rest of the UN Fraternity in marking the International Youth Day under the theme; ‘Unlocking Young People’s Potential for Sustainable Development through Collective Investment’. While addressing journalists at the Ministry of Gender headquarters in Kampala, the Minister of State for Youth and Children, Ronald Kibuule has called upon all youth to join in this year’s celebrations that will take place at Boma grounds in Moroto District and at various Local Government levels. “This national theme is meant to enable us examine and analyze the importance of skills development and acquisition in the empowerment of Uganda youth,” Kibuule noted. “We take cognizance of the fact that skills development is not the only strategy for youth empowerment but a cardinal and significant intervention in the empowerment process,”he added. Kibuule added that with over 78 percent of the population below 30 years, Uganda has the third youngest global population and if managed well, this represents Uganda’s best development asset over the coming decades. “Therefore, unlocking the creative and innovativeness of this group is paramount, it is an enormous task and therefore unlocking youth potential for sustainable development calls for collective responsibility and investment.” He has applauded president Museveni who is expected to preside over the celebrations for the enormous efforts that he has invested towards the well fare of youth in the country by coming up with the Youth Livelihood programme that is so far registering success. Kibuule has noted that since the launch of the Youth Livelihood Programme, 1,563 youth group projects have been developed and a total of 20,192 youth with 44 percent female and 56 percent male have benefited from the first phase covering 27 districts in the country.
