Museveni has never been loved by the public. He chose to be feared - TopicsExpress

Museveni has never been loved by the public. He chose to be feared to gain power and keep it. That is why when he faces opposition he addresses the public on television in military fatigues with eyes protruding. He does that purposely to instill and maintain fear in Ugandans. To unseat him from power Ugandans need to overcome fearing Museveni. He is a human being like all of us. He also fears us explaining in part why he instills fear in us. Since I have known Museveni from our student days at Ntare School, he has never won anything through a popular vote. He never held a leadership position at Ntare School. At the Moshi conference in 1979 he was never supported by the delegates. It is believed he was imposed on the Military Commission by external forces. During the transitional period after Amin fell, Museveni failed to mobilize national support. He tried to lead DP into the 1980 elections but was rejected by DP leadership. He become chairman of Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM) through arm twisting which was rejected in the entire country except one sit in parliament won by Kiyonga. Museveni lost a parliamentary seat in his home constituency of Nyabushozi to Sam Kutesa when he had been portrayed as a hero. Earlier when they formed a party in Lusaka, Zambia, Museveni lost the leadership contest to the late Barigye. When Lule who was chairman of NRM passed on, Museveni became acting chairman and refused elections because he knew he would lose. Consequently he became president by default having been acting chairman when Kampala fell to NRM/NRA guerrillas in 1986. He opposed elections for ten years in part for fear of losing and when he finally allowed them under pressure in 1996 he threatened to go back to the bush and cause hell if he lost because he realized he was losing. It was this threat and harassing his presidential opponent that got him through. He has since rigged elections and threatened to use force to stay in power. Now he is realizing this strategy may not work for his re-election or installing his son as the next president of Uganda. The abrupt signing of the MOU with Mengo administration was possibly extracted from Baganda at gun point during the three hour meeting prior to signing the memorandum. We don’t know who actually witnessed the signing ceremony although some names have been mentioned but apparently there were no reporters. It is possible Buganda representatives refused to sign and Museveni did it alone. And that is how people close to/or in state house have reported it. Upon public objection that a Memorandum of Understanding can’t be signed by one party, Mengo administration was probably subsequently forced to sign. It is also possible that to tie the hands of the Kabaka he was forced to sign because it is not his duty to do so being a traditional head above politics. The Katikkiro who represented Mengo administration should have signed. So there is something fishy about this whole exercise and Ugandans need to get to the bottom of it. The 90 MPs from Buganda should champion the search for the truth for they represent the people of Buganda. It is their responsibility and they have to discharge it or face the wrath of the electorate in 2016. Uganda will be free once we learn how to overcome fear. When you are afraid of dying or getting hurt or making a mistake you will never succeed in anything. All you need to do is try and minimize the risk but risk you have to take. We need to act smart. We don’t need to physically confront Museveni. We can frustrate his regime by other means until it implodes, a process that has begun. When you see schools closing; hospitals without medicines, doctors and nurses and midwives; teachers not paid; police officers paid in kind of maize and beans instead of cash and donors abandoning Museveni, you can’t fail to see that things are happening and pressure is building on NRM thanks to diplomacy and political actions underway. We appeal to those still sitting on the fence to join us now before the train leaves town and you are left behind. We might be entering the final phase to rid Uganda of a military dictatorship and a failed state. Let us not accept suffering on earth to qualify for entry into the kingdom of heaven. That was a medieval concept designed to exploit serfs that has no place in 21st century Uganda. Overcome fear. Join us. Participate and together we shall overcome. You now know where I stand.
