Music Monday. On This Day In Rock History: September 8th 1973, The Allman Brothers started a five week run at No.1 on the album chart with ‘Brothers And Sisters’. This is the group’s only US No.1 Album. And the group is on a roll. With Great songs like Melissa and One Way Out and later on the hit single Ramblin Man they couldnt go wrong. This album along with the legendary album Live At Great Woods which was originally recorded for TV is a powerful lineup. Those two albums and At The Fillmore East and the Eat a Peach albums would cement the Allman Brothers as mainstays in Rock Music forever. Growing out of Daytona Beach and Macon Georgia they would be the band that built the Capricorn Records label with their relentless touring. As Greg Allman said: We played in the Park for free in the beginning and built our fan base up from nothing. Does anyone have a really long extension cord? As they say in their song Midnight Rider : The road goes on forever. Throughout all the ups and downs and loss of members in tragic car and motorbike accidents they carried on up until a few weeks ago when they announced their end of touring days. Final tour dates are in October 2014. If you have never seen them live dont miss this last tour, and own all their albums you can find. As the principal architects of Southern Rock and Roll, the Allman Brothers Band forged this new musical offshoot from elements of blues, jazz, soul, R&B and rock and roll.
