In celebrating the 25th anniversary of our MusiCares Person of the Year tribute, it is most fitting that we are honoring Bob Dylan, whose body of creative work has contributed to Americas culture, as well as that of the entire world, in genuinely deep and lasting ways, Neil Portnow, President and CEO of the MusiCares Foundation and The Recording Academy, said in a statement. Bob Dylans songwriting ability is unmatched, and it will be an extraordinary evening to hear his work showcased by such a remarkable group of artists, Bill Silva, Chair of the MusiCares Foundation Board, also said. Previous MusiCares Person of the Year recipients over the past 10 years include Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Neil Young, Neil Diamond, Aretha Franklin, Don Henley, James Taylor, Brian Wilson and Sting. Prior to the MusiCares gala, Dylan will be touring the U.S. on a 31-date fall tour. Additionally, Dylans cover of the Beatles Things We Said Today will come out on the Paul McCartney tribute album The Art of McCartney on November 18th. Dylan is also issuing The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11, which collects all 138 tracks he recorded during his legendary sessions with the Band in 1967, and a collection of lyrics he wrote but didnt write music for in those same sessions will come out as Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes. A collective of musicians, including Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, My Morning Jackets Jim James and even Johnny Depp added music to the lyrics for the record, which is due out November 11th.
