Recently Demi Lovato has been stepping up in big ways as an outspoken advocate for both gay rights and mental health issues, specifically bipolar disorder, with which she was diagnosed in 2011. Now shes taking her engagement to a new level, announcing Friday she will join the The Mental Health Listening & Engagement Tour at which she will connect with some of the countrys leading experts and champions over a series of discussions to speak about her own life experiences. The pop singer released a public service announcement video with the announcement, in which she explains, Bipolar depression really got my life off track, but today Im proud to say I am living proof that someone can live, love, and be well with bipolar disorder when they get the education, support and treatment they need. The Sunovion Pharmaceuticals-sponsored video also states the intent of Lovatos inclusion on the tour, reading at the intro, To support the mental health communitys vision of building a new generation of powerful advocates, The Mental Health Listening & Engagement Tour connects Demi Lovato with the mental health advocacy community in a new way. On the tour, Lovato says in the video, I want to shine a light on the people out there who like me are learning to live well with mental illness by getting the right diagnosis and finding the right treatment plan.
