Music Production Tip#3: Sidechaining has some alternatives such is Volume automation by hand or by using an LFO tool. For those who are still using the classic compression technique and as there are still compressors that have a delay there is an important thing to do especially when you need to retain the click of the kick. Add a new, or duplicate your kick, that you will use to trigger your things and just move it a few ms to the left of your main kick depending of course on the attack settings of your compressor. This way your compressor will start working right on time, when you want it and without having any extra annoying clicks from the sounds you are sidechaining. Also do not forget to carefully set your release time and never let the release time to exceed the total length of the time between your kicks.
