Music and mathematics are connected in fundamental ways. Both involve patterns, structures, and relationships. Both generate ideas of beauty and elegance. Music utilizes mathematical principles. Music and math share many qualities, including abstract thinking, creativity, and intense focus. Rather than eliminate music and require more TIME at math, perhaps someone ought to examine the QUALITY of our math program. Why base a math program on Common Core standards which have absolutely no track record? Common Core is completely untested and two years behind most competitive math programs. Students studying Common Core math are essentially being used as guinea pigs.
